Careers and the World of Work Statement:
At Burry Port Community Primary School, we are committed to preparing our pupils for success beyond the classroom. Our Careers in the World of Work programme is designed to inspire ambition, broaden horizons and equip students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make informed decisions about their futures.
Through meaningful encounters with employers, further and higher education providers, and a wide range of career pathways, we aim to help every pupil understand the opportunities available to them. We believe that high-quality careers education empowers young people to aspire, achieve and thrive in an ever-changing world.
At our school, we believe that any child can grow up to do any job, regardless of gender, background, or ability. We actively challenge stereotypes and encourage every pupil to explore a wide range of career possibilities with confidence and ambition. This approach reflects the Welsh Government’s core equality values, which promote fairness, inclusion and the removal of barriers so that everyone has equal opportunities to succeed and fulfil their potential. By embracing diversity and supporting all pupils to make informed, unbiased choices about their futures, we help build a Wales where young people can thrive in learning and work, free from discrimination and limitations based on who they are.
Some pupil voice quotes from our children at Burry Port Primary that reflects aspiration, inclusion, Welsh identity and challenging stereotypes:
“I want to design video games and create them here in Wales.”
“I used to think some jobs were just for boys, but now I know I can do anything.”
“I want to be a vet because I love animals and I want to help farmers in my community.”
“I didn’t realise there were so many different jobs in science.”
“I want to start my own business one day.”
“I want to work in renewable energy and help protect our planet."
