SPRING TERM

This term our class theme is:

Hola Patagonia and proud to be Welsh!

We will be learning about and inquiring into details from the past. We will become history detectives to find out about our Welsh ancestors and their fight for the survival of the Welsh language. We will travel with the passengers on board the Mimosa to set sail from Liverpool Docks to imagine the journey to Patagonia where the Welsh settled and developed a new colony - Y Wladfa. We will be celebrating our Welsh heritage and culture as part of Santes Dwynwen, Saint Dvaid's Day and Urdd celebrations. We will be exploring our 'cynefin' and finding out about belonging to a community.

What makes us Welsh and what connects us?

HEALTH and WELLBEING

Having a positive health and wellbeing is very important to us.

We use the outdoor space as much as possible, to engage with nature, have fresh air and be as physically active as possible.

We also explore lots of strategies on how to maintain a positive mental health in our Circle time check ins and wellbeing lessons and discuss many concepts in P4C sessions. We also enjoy our sessions to develop Mindfulness strategies to enable us to feel calm and focus on the present.

Our official PE sessions are timetabled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this term.

On these days, we expect pupils to bring appropriate PE clothing to school. This should consist of...

- trainers

- T-shirt

- tracksuit trousers or shorts

- tracksuit top or hoodie

Pupils will then be expected to change back into their school uniform for the remainder of the school day.

For safety reasons, any jewellery must be removed, and long hair should be tied back.

As we wish to get pupils out and active every day, we recommend our pupils bring trainers to school every day as we want to make the most of learning outdoors and keeping ourselves active and healthy.

Don't forget to keep up to date through our Twitter page and our Google classroom where we will share our learning journey with you.

Building Learning Power:

We will be very busy this term to continue building our learning habits in order to become better learners and unlock our own potential. We have developed a growth mindset to learning and love to be challenged and pushed out of our comfort zone as that is when real learning takes place.

The focus for this term is Me Learning

- How can I become a better learner? What makes me a successful learner?

Perseverance:

We use Percy perseverance and our stuck strategies when we find things difficult. Percy has helped us to develop grit and determination to succeed in all that we do.

Collaboration:

Working with each other has taught us to develop an atmosphere of cooperation where we have developed our problem solving skills. We understand that everyone has a vital part to play in achieving a shared goal. We share out job tasks during group work, treat each other fairly and value everyone's ideas and opinions as we are all as important as each other. We love nothing more than working as a team in 4/5DB.

Questioning:

We are very curious in 4/5DB and love to question everything. We enjoy using the thinking dice and Bloom's taxonomy to promote thinking, formulate higher order questions and challenge the thinking of others.

Listening:

We are so excited to be part of a very special project on Spain. We are learning a trilingual approach to developing our vocabulary in English, Welsh and Spanish through listening to the beautiful tunes played on orchestral instruments by musicians from the BBC Orchestra.

 Imagining:

We develop our imagining muscles by writing descriptive story settings, working as detectives to analyse clues and draw character profiles as well as working on our mind's eye through stilling technique. Creativity is key!

Reasoning:

Developing problem solving, lateral thinking and reasoning have been a key focus of our lessons this term. We have enjoyed tackling puzzles and investigations and are learning to clarify our thinking, justify our opinions and counter argue.
