Welcome to Burry Port Community Primary School 'Guiding Brighter Futures' 'Arwain at Ddyfodol Disglair'

Curriculum

At our school, learning is exciting, broad, and connected. Our curriculum is built around the six Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs) in Wales, designed to help every child grow, explore, and succeed:

  • Expressive Arts – Discover creativity through music, drama, art, and dance.

  • Health and Well-being – Learn about yourself, your emotions, and how to live a healthy, happy life.

  • Humanities – Explore history, geography, and the world around us.

  • Languages, Literacy, and Communication – Develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

  • Mathematics and Numeracy – Build confidence with numbers, patterns, problem-solving, and reasoning.

  • Science and Technology – Investigate, experiment, and understand the natural and digital world.

Through these six AoLEs, our pupils gain knowledge, skills, and experiences that prepare them for life-long learning and success.

Welsh Government guidance for parents

At our school, every child is at the heart of their learning. We focus on person-centred practices to ensure every pupil feels valued and supported, while encouraging them to be curious, resilient, and reflective learners through Building Learning Power. Our commitment to Philosophy for Children helps pupils think deeply, reason thoughtfully, and listen respectfully.

As a Lead Creative School, we provide rich opportunities for self-expression and innovation across art, music, drama, and the wider curriculum. We support smooth transitions between classes and schools, helping every child feel confident and ready for the next step. And for our more able and talented pupils, we offer tailored challenges and enrichment experiences to inspire them to reach their full potential.

Together, these approaches ensure that all our pupils grow as confident, capable, and thoughtful learners, ready for the future.
